Dutch public holidays

I've known for a while that public holidays in this country are lost if they fall on a weekend. In Australia, if they do fall on a public holiday, the Friday or Monday automatically become a public holiday, usually leading to plenty of extra long weekends.

However, in the Netherlands, this is not the case. If it happens, then it's tough titties, you lose it. Normally it's not such a big deal, but this year it's a nasty one. With Christmas, Boxing Day (here called 2nd Christmas) and New Years day all falling on a weekend, there are absolutely no free days at all over the Christmas period this year.

Time to reason with the boss. I'm still going away for Christmas.
